Commission (UGC) for the establishment of Central Universities in India. Presently there are 20 Central Universities in India.

Special features of Central University in India

• The President of India acts as the 'Visitor' for all the Central Universities.
• The President has the power to nominate a few members to the Executive Committee/Board of Management/Court/Selection Committees of the University.
• The appointment of Vice Chancellors, Court Nominees and Selection Committee Nominees is done by President of India with the assistance of The Ministry of Human Resources and Development (MHRD)
