Lalit Kala Akademi, a nerve center of creative and cultural discussion in India, awards Scholarships promoting study and research in the field of creative arts such as Painting, Sculpture, Graphics and other such forms.

It was set up in 1954 by the former Union Minister of Education Dr. Abul Kalam Azad for the development and promotion of visual and plastic arts in India. Since its inception, the Lalit Kala Akademi has been keenly concerned in the search for a fresh cultural identity and nationhood of independent India by rejuvenating and formulating the diverse Indian cultural practices.

There is almost not any artist or art critic in India who has not been associated with the Lalit Kala Akademi and its activities. The Lalit Kala Akademi Scholarships is awarded in providing impetus to creative artists by providing scholarships, making publications on art, conducting various seminars and exhibitions and creating a common platform for artists and art critics from all parts of the country for exchange of views and ideas.

Details of Lalit Kala Akademi Scholarships

Candidates, who are the Artists, Art-Critics and Art-Historians below 35 years of age, are asked to fill up the application forms of the Lalit Kala Akademi Scholarships. The selected candidates will be granted of Scholarship of Rs. 3000 per month for a period of twelve months in the field of Visual Arts. 40 scholarships are granted by the academy, of which not more than 4 scholarships will be offered to scholars in any one State or Union Territory. The selected scholars will be asked to work in any one of the Regional Centers of the Lalit Kala Akademi, which are located in Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow and the Garhi Artist Studio near Delhi.

Eligibility and details of Lalit Kala Akademi Scholarships

The candidates should be a recent graduate/post-graduate from a leading Indian institute for theatre arts in India. The candidates should not be a holder of a similar/government scholarship or award. He/She should be between 21years and 35 years in the year of application. The candidates should send the details like name, educational qualifications, contact address, permanent address, and evidence of date of birth. They should also write a brief essay providing details of present occupation and achievement (related to art works) to date (1000 to 1500 words). Advertisements for the Lalit Kala Akademi Scholarships are frequently published in leading newspapers in the month of May / June every year. The filled in application forms are asked to be submitted at the office of the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi.
